In 1958 Chicago police officer, James Faust, Sr., saw a need for automotive security systems after becoming aware of the increasing number of vehicle thefts and break-ins. He soon started moonlighting installing security systems that he made with some parts from RadioShack. Soon after, the business grew so large that he quit his job on the Chicago police force and officially opened a business known as ABC Auto Alarms. He started manufacturing his line of security systems which arguably were the first mass produced auto security systems in the world. He began selling these products world wide and used his ABC stores as test grounds for his creations.
