Founded in 1970 by the Reverend Kinzy Reed, Reed's Exxon began operation as a gas station/convenience store and automobile service center. Reverend Reed ran the business with the help of his family until 1980 when he went into full-time ministry. Reed's Exxon's youngest employee when the business opened was the Reed's 10-year-old son, Dale. Dale swept the floors and straightened up the pop bottles. After several years, taught by his father and uncle, Denzle Reed, Dale learned the ins and outs of the tire industry. Also during that time, James McAlister, the lead mechanic at Reed's Exxon mentored him. He was a fast study and soon was acquainted with all aspects of the business.
