Overview: Car Alarm & Remote Start Installation
Car security splits into three jobs: stopping someone driving your car away, making noise if they try, and finding it if they succeed. Alarms and immobilizers handle the first two. A GPS tracker with a recovery service behind it handles the third, and plenty of owners end up with all three.
How cars get stolen has changed, so the defense has to change with it. Keyless cars go missing to a relay attack, where one thief picks up the signal from the key sitting in your hallway and a second passes it to the car on the driveway. No glass broken, no noise at all. A signal-blocking pouch for the keys costs almost nothing and stops it. A steering lock is old technology and it still works, because it takes time and it is visible from the street.
Remote start shares wiring and installers with security work, which is why the same shops do both. On a manual transmission it gets complicated, and shops handle that differently, so ask before you buy.
Do not assume an alarm cuts your premium. Some insurers care what you fit and some do not. Call yours first.
