When it's time to use Insurance (and when it's NOT) Let's let simple math make this decision for us, shall we? Assume you have a $2000 estimate for repairs. Assume your deductible is $1000. 99% of big insurance will raise your rates after you file a claim for over !1000. So insurance gives you $1000, and you're rates go up 25% for example. Avg annual insurance for a Tesla model y is $4000. 25% is over $1000 ANNUAL increase. That means your insurance company will NOW recoup that expense in a year. AND you will be paying higher rates for LIFE..years/decades etc which means they make ALOT more money off you and the NEXT time you may not even want to claim due to the rates climbing SKY HIGH. So you might be asking, "When should I use my insurance? For claims ABOVE $3000 and/or bodily injury is when. Yes it hurts to spend $1000 to fix your car and even more to spend $2000, but its a one time pain, not eternal.
