The owner will go out of his way to straight up save you as much money as possible.
I reserved the trailer for a drop-off in Seattle, and explained to the North Anchorage U-Haul that I would be traveling through Yukon and British Columbia on the Alaska Highway during winter, and that the trailer should be in good shape.
