When comparing different paint correction services, you will likely see many detailers refer to a 1-step or 2-step correction process, but what does this mean? The answer could vary from detailer to detailer, but in general, a 2-step correction involves an initial compound step to remove scratches and imperfections followed by a polish step to remove haze from the compound. A 1-step polish is a product that combines the compound and polish phases into one step. This type of polishing works great for vehicles with softer clear coats and is usually better for lighter-colored paint. On vehicles with black paint or a hard clear coat, you may need to use a 2-step method to get the results you’re looking for. A 2-step correction allows you to use a more aggressive compound and pad combination to remove more scratches and imperfections. Consequently, this will cause the paint to look hazy and instill holograms in the finish. To remove this, we go over the paint again with a polish to give the paint a true mirror-like appearance. After reading this, you likely still don’t know which option would be best for your vehicle.
