After graduating CCCC in Georgetown for their automotive program, Howard joined our staff under the ownership and management of Bruce Rouse and Chuck Kay Sr. back in 1974 at age 23. He joined our paint department working with Tommy Morton. We are Jacksonville’s oldest, body shop and this man has been painting for us for the last 47 years. It’s safe to say, he is probably Jacksonville’s oldest, longest running, Automotive Master Painter, maybe even Onslow County’s. Under the management of Chuck Sr he watched Charles grow up, under the management of Charles, he watched Whitney, Branden and John. With them running the shop, he’s took part in watching the first 7 years of the 4th generation of Kay’s grow up at the shop. He stayed surprising them with fresh fruit and Tom & Jerry cartoons with them on his break. Many of our long time customers know him by name. However, to the shop staff, he will always be known to us as Unk because he is the uncle we never had. Howard’s replacement might not ever truly be filled, but there is nobody to fill those big shoes of his, besides his son Marshall who has been trained and groomed by his father in our shop. He has been there through all of our family’s trials and tribulations. This man is more than just a coworker he’s family. Today was Howard’s last day as he has decided it is finally time to retire. This morning he did his last, final spray before hanging up the suite for good. We love and miss you but we hope you enjoy retirement!
