Why is the Heat on My Car Blowing Cold? Winters can be unforgiving, and there's nothing worse than turning on your car's heater, only to be greeted by a blast of icy air. If your vehicle's heat is blowing cold, there are several potential culprits to consider. One common reason for cold air blowing from the vents is a low coolant level. Your car's heating system relies on a mix of coolant and water to generate warm air. If the coolant level is too low, there may not be enough hot liquid to produce the desired warmth. Check your vehicle's coolant reservoir and add coolant if needed, making sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. You can also stop by 59 Auto Repair and we will check your coolant level for you. Another possibility is a malfunctioning thermostat. The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant through the engine and heater core. If it's stuck open or closed, the proper temperature may not be maintained, leading to cold air blowing from the vents. A clogged heater core could also be the culprit. Over time, the heater core can accumulate debris and sediment, hindering the efficient transfer of heat. Flushing the heater core can often resolve this issue, but sometimes the debris is too much and the heater core will need to be replaced. In some cases, the problem may lie within the blend door actuator. This component controls the mix of hot and cold air that enters the cabin.
