With no obvious issues in driving my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer except that I had an older vehicle with low mileage and what I thought was normal feel of an older vehicle, I had/have a “Check Transmission” message that comes on after 5-10 minutes of driving. On recommendation I took my vehicle to Balch's Transmission Service. Tom at Balch's looked at the issue and gave me his honest assessment that to remedy the issue would cost more than the vehicle is worth. Further recommendation from Tom was to just keep all drive train related fluids checked and topped off at each engine oil change and drive it till it drops. Balch's was very upfront with me. Staff is super friendly but they're even more expensive than getting work done at dealership.
We had a car with the check engine light on and took it to Balch's per a recommendation since they specialize in transmissions.
